Smart Meal Lasagna


  • 1x Smart Meals Feeding Bag
  • 1x Large onion (diced)
  • 1x Garlic clove (minced)
  • 1x tbsp. oil of choice
  • 1x green pepper (seeds removed and diced)
  • 3x bacon rashers (diced)
  • ½ cup red wine
  • 1x beef cube
  • 1x tin of tomatoes
  • 1x tbsp. tomato paste
  • 1x bay leaf
  • Lasagna Sheets
  • Thick Cheese Sauce:
    • 2 tbsp butter
    • 2 tbsp flour
    • 250ml milk
    • 250ml grated strong cheddar cheese
  • Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • Seasoning


  • Preheat oven to 180⁰C.
  • Begin by cooking the contents of the Smart Meal on the stove in water for 25-30 minutes.
  • Fry onion, garlic, green pepper, and bacon bits in oil until softened and slightly caramelised.
  • Add red wine, beef cube, tinned tomatoes, tomato paste, bay leaf, and finally, the cooked Smart Meal. Combine gently and simmer for ½ an hour. Taste and season if necessary.

  • Prepare your cheese sauce by making a roux with butter and flour. Gently melt the butter in a pot on medium and once melted, add the flour and combine the mixture with a whisk. Slowly add milk, whisking constantly to ensure no lumps form. Continue adding milk and whisking until you feel you have enough sauce. Add enough grated cheese to your liking, stir until the cheese has melted and the sauce is thick.

  • To start layering the lasagna:- Butter a casserole dish. Place a single layer of lasagna sheets into the base of the dish, followed by half of the SM mixture; spread evenly. Place another single layer of lasagna sheets over the SM mixture, pour half of the cheese sauce over the sheets evenly and add another layer of lasagna sheets over the cheese sauce. Spread the rest of the SM mixture evenly over sheets and add one more level of lasagna sheets, followed by the last of the cheese sauce. Top with grated parmesan cheese.
  • Cover with tinfoil and bake at 180⁰ until the lasagna is soft (approx. ½ an hour). Remove the tinfoil and bake for a further 15 minutes to brown the top.
